ENVIRONMENTAL INJUSTICE IN PRISONS

Home: Welcome

ABOUT MY PROJECT

This website builds awareness around the crucial connections between Environmental Justice and Mass Incarceration in the US. Undoubtedly, the US dehumanizes people that are incarcerated by submitting them to racialized violence and toxic environments that strip them from their human right to clean air and water. This site firmly believes in social justice and does not condone the belief that incarcerated people should be deprived of basic human needs. No human being should have to worry about dying from breathing toxic air or drinking contaminated water but that is the reality we face in the United States of America.

OUR PURPOSE AND VISIONS

EXPOSE THE TRUTH

A call to action.

One major purpose of this site is to expose the dehumanization in prisons and their inabilities to actually deter crimes. We believe that we must deconstruct the notion that prisons are needed and support that belief with research, facts, and stories. After all, what gives someone the right to think they are superior enough to deprive someone of their freedom and a healthy life?

SOCIAL JUSTICE AND LIBERATION

Thinking in the Future

Apart from exposing the truth on environmental injustice in prisons, we also advocate for a world free of prisons. We believe that environmental justice can be attained through liberation for everyone. We must think beyond what we were taught to be "normal" and consider other options that do not strip people from living healthy and just lives. Nobody should be given the power to strip others from basic human rights and necessities, regardless of their "criminal" record. Therefore, this website provides alternatives that are just and sustainable.

SPREAD THE WORD

It can be as simple as informing your friend about how environmental injustice plays a role in prisons. Expose the truths and spread the knowledge you learn from here and on. Another thing you can do is be part of a protest, when it is safe to do so.
